WHAT WE'RE ABOUT
That's our mission because it's through Jesus that people are reconciled with God and experience a life filled with love, joy, and hope.
CrossPoint is part of Converge North Central. Converge is a movement of churches working to help people meet, know, and follow Jesus.
We fulfill our mission by living out our values:
We prioritize meeting regularly with other believers because it is through relationships that we are spurred on to keep the faith and mature to be like Christ. We find community together through participating in the Sunday gathering, joining a growth group, and serving in ministry.
We are continuously and proactively seeking to know God and his Word, understand his way of life for us, and live obediently to him. This growth process involves adopting spiritual practices, inviting accountability, and pursuing a personal relationship with God.
God has given us so much, so we joyfully and generously share our time, gifts, and finances to meet needs and see God's good plans accomplished in people's lives.
We don't ride the bench but get out on the field to be a part of the team to fulfill the mission to proclaim the good news of Jesus and to make disciples who overflow in faith, hope, and love.
ABOUT CROSSPOINT
We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God, and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and are guilty sinners in thought, word, and deed. (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-24; Romans 3:25; 5:12-18; 1 John 1:8) We believe that the Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; that He rose victorious from the grave on the third day; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood. (Isaiah 53; Matthew 20:28; John 3:16; Romans 3:24-26; 5:1; 1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 2:2; Matthew 28:6 Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 15:14) We believe that all who come by grace through faith to accept the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. (John 3:3, 5; 1:12,13; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; Ephesians 2:8,9)
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1,26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,3; 4:24; Acts 5:3,4; Romans 1:20; Ephesians 4:5, 6; 2 Corinthians 13:14) We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13)
We believe that the Bible is the verbally and plenarily inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts. The Bible is our supreme and final authority in faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21)
We believe that those who partake of the Lord’s Supper should be born-again believers, walking in fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 2:42-46; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29) We believe that as Christians we are to meet together regularly for worship, ordinances, and the encouragement of each other. (Hebrews 10:24, 25; Acts 2:42, 46, 47a)
We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Act 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17) We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting joy of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. (John 5:28-29; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 20:4-6; 11-15)
A CHURCH ON A MISSION FOR OVER 135 YEARS
CrossPoint Church's story begins with a religious unbeliever experiencing a new birth in Christ. Hans Gravenslund attended the State Church of Denmark and considered himself a Christian. However, when he heard an evangelist preach the gospel, he realized he had yet to be born again as a follower of Jesus. Hans and a small group of people withdrew from the State Church and began conducting services on their own. They called themselves "Followers of Christ".
Hans and his family moved to the United States to settle in Mankato. On their way there, they stopped at a farm in the Hutchinson area to hang their clothes to dry. As they took in the beauty of the area, they decided that Hutchinson would be a good place to live and decided to stay. In 1880 Hans gathered a small group of believers for worship, prayer, and bible study. This gathering of believers grew, and they needed a building to accommodate their size better. They built their first church but soon outgrew it. They then moved into a larger building and, upon doing so, adopted the name Franklin St. Baptist Church.
In 1980, the congregation outgrew their meeting space again and sought land to build a new church. They found ground in southwest Hutchinson, our current location. During this transition, the church renamed itself Shalom Baptist Church to communicate its desire to be a welcoming place of peace for people to meet and know God.
Shalom Baptist had a vision in 2012 for expanding its facilities to fulfill the mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus. A building campaign was launched to double the size of the existing church building, and the project was completed in 2015. During this time, the church changed its name to CrossPoint Church to better communicate its mission and connect with people in the community.
Today, our mission remains to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We come from a rich legacy of believers who were passionate about knowing God and sharing the good news of Jesus with others, and we continue to carry on that mission today over 135 years later.
